Feria Libre Tobalaba - Tobalaba Fresh Market - Pitt Pens

This Fresh Market functions Wednesday and Saturday a couple of blocks from my house .... it is the same where works the fisherman whom I did the portrait of his deceased son (but I did it in another location where you installed other days, for more info see this post the fisherman's son ).
I sat on a Wednesday around noon with my saddle and began to draw with my Artist Pitt Pens. As usual, I began to be observed and to receive positive feedback while drawing. With a detailed drawing that departed from the particular to the general, I amused myself with a continuous line drawing plants, boxes, prices, sellers and owners. Finally, we generated a cool and funny exchange with them and even included a seller who initially didm´t appear in the drawing only because he insisted so kind. I sent the drawing already by email for them, I guess they will use it for their visit cards. In return they gave me vegetable accomplishing my Premise: "The best I know how to do for the better hey know how to do" .... a virtous exchange that does not make me richer in monetary terms but richer in humanity terms because I know wonderful people that reach my heart and because I can do the good only with my drawings, the good for good real people in this Chile today.

Prometo volver. Hoy he vuelto.

I leave one of the works in this series, a goddess of watercolor.
I am in the budding of a new gallery and for that I was asked to perform 50 small works. 50 works does not sound much but in making them I realized that was a big job. The already delivered and I give my best as a painter, and draftsman, and illustrator, without guides, without knowing what would be appropriate, but following my instinct and my self-criticism, which incidentally, is a cruel and demanding sensor I've had to deal all my life but in the end, is like a picky neighbor and got we have to endure so much and make life impossible for us to soften ends when we see that at heart, he cares. So, I went through times when I loved my work and others that would not even enter the shop. But when I terminate the work and as always, organized, works on paper glued and finished the presentation for delivery, I began to see that the quality of the work was good, there was a good variety of techniques, colors and skills, I was happy. When work is finished, I smiled. And I smiled when they came over the heads of the gallery and smiled too, were happy, seeing the wonder and the pleasant surprise showing was real, I was pleased. I expressed so many nice things about the works that really made me feel satisfied. A long but conscious work always pays off. And these works were done well, with all the dedication and professionalism that I have always been characterized, with my soul, my heart and these hands that capture the miracle on paper.

How is the process behind the paintings .... in this post I commented about the development, a rollercoaster between successes and failures to achieve a finished or an erased painting.

Diosasauce
DIOSASAUCEAcuarela sobre papel 68 x 48 cm
Corre el tiempo. Avanza.
DIOSASAUCE
Watercolor on paper
68 x 48 cm
Time runs. It progresses inexorably. Several months have passed since my previous note. And I have not even notice. At first I was compounded by not publishing. I tend to put routines and even order in this hobby so capriciously free. But despite the attempts, the desire didn´t appear. I was in state I know and feared. A white space, exempt from any attachment to the work already done and afraid regarding a blank paper. I waited looking for a reason. Well, woman will always be the principal. But what a woman. The woman from where. And so time passed between absence and presence in my atelier without much results. I'm back to writing again today because finally the ideas came. Although this Diosasauce does not belong to the new series, I'm working on new paintings. And that encourages me to start writing again.

¿Qué significa una exposición?
ISHTAR Diosa Babilónica del Amor
Babilonean Love Goddess
Acrílico sobre tabla - Acrylic on board
80 x 60 cm - vendida - sold
Depende.
English Version
What does an exhibition mean?
I assume that like everything in life, it depends.
An exhibition can be a social event. A moment of glory. The "sale" opportunity. It can be.
For me the past exhibition was the chance to see two years in perspective. Two years passed before me, hiding behind every coat of paint, glued to the damaged skin of my fingers due to frecuent sanding and glueing, embedded in blue paint that penetrated my nails and obstinately refused to disappear shower after shower. The wed cheeks from the days of confusion. So many questions, forwarding and backtracking. Two years where I look me as a painter and see that I'm not the same as the one the started. I can say that they were two years of profound learning, especially about myself. Because my painting speaks about myself. I do not know if all the painters do the same. I have no idea. The more pictures I see the less I understand about art so I can only speak about my own work.
There I was, with people milling around and getting comments and i only felt extremely humble. Small compared to all the Goddesses that began to rule on the walls, that were displayed in all its magnificence. They were not mine. They had already taken their place.
What meaning has an exhibition?
It depends.

DIOSA VIENTO - WIND GODDESS

WINDGODDESS
Watercolor and walnut extract on paper - 68 x 48 cms. - Varnished.
WINDGODDESS is part of the 12 medium sized watercolors that I am preparing for my next exhibition. This goddess is the result of a long process full of errors with a happy ending. It's painted on the back of another image and almost completely covered with walnut extract in a moment of frustration. The result was entirely satisfactory and most important for me, spontaneous. In my watercolors I do not prepare sketches, trace the image nor use projected images. I only begin to paint totally focused. This process is obviously risky. Failure rate can be high. But I love it because part of me tends to be very rational and controlled and if I use all the processes described, my paintings will lack of emotion and life and became rigid. My great north is flow and spontaneity. And I mean with this not only my paintings.

Diosa esquimal SEDNA - SEDNA Inuit Goddess
English Version
SEDNA, INUIT GODDESS OF THE SEAS
This Goddess is part of the series of acrylic on board goddesses and measures 31.5 x 23.6 inchs. She will be exhibited in London in July on I-SHO I’s, Shes, Hers and Ours, Feminist Art Show, held in The Gallery and organized by 73 Women in the Arts.
My acrylic are based on ancient myths. I paint them to tell their stories, to bring them to present and deliver the cultural and spiritual richness of their worship. Beyond the religious beliefs of each, the mythology has collected over the centuries all cultural heritage and condensed it in their beliefs. So, as we see one of these goddesses in some way or another we know more about our own history.
In this case, the story of Sedna is one of the ones that deeply impressed me:
SEDNAS´S story began when her father married she with a gentleman, who happened to be a wicked witch or crow. Sedna weeped for his abuse and her cry reached the ears of her father who decided to rescue her in his kayak. During the escape the wizard generated a terrible storm that threatened to sink them both. His father understood that the witch wanted only his daughter and throwed her into the sea. But Sedna tried to get in the kayak again and to prevent it, her father hited or cuted her hands. Sedna sank in the sea and from her amputated hands and fingers all marine animals were born. The shamans say that when the sea is stormy or the fishing bad is it Sedna that is furious because she can´t comb her hair without hands. Then they fall to do her hair. Inuit hunters and fishermen live on the obligation of treating sea and women with respect.
